Shell Watcher icon

Shell Watcher

A rather simple widget displaying the textual output of any shell command you can think of.

You can resize the widget to display as much or as little text as you need. Colors for output (both normal output and error messages) and background are customizable, as is the opacity of the background. The interval at which the command is to be run is also configurable.

Shell Watcher can be used to monitor your server logs (by using ssh with key authentication you can even grab info from any command on a server somewhere on the internet), to display your current disk usage, display who is currently logged into your computer and so on. The list is virtually endless.

Version History

  • Version 1.1
    • A new history menu contains the last ten used commands so you don't have to retype them.
    • Fixed a bug where shell output containing characters with special meaning in HTML would not be displayed.
    • Added a border around the Shell Watcher widget. This border usually takes on the color of the normal text and switches to the error text color when output is sent to stdout by the shell command. The border can be disabled by a checkbox in the preferences.
    • Minor text modifications.
